Hormizd II (268-309) was Emperor of the Sassanid Empire from 302 to 309, succeeding Narseh and preceding Shapur II.
Biography[]
Hormizd was the son of Narseh, and in 302 he succeeded his father as the Shahanshah of the Sassanid Empire after his death. Hormizd persecuted the followers of Manichaeism unlike his father, and he attempted to improve relations with the Kingdom of Armenia. Hormizd was wounded on a hunting trip in 309 by an army of Ghassanids, and he was killed by his own nobles; his yet-to-be-born son Shapur II was crowned while in his wife's womb.
