
Horacio Vasquez (22 October 1860-25 March 1936) was President of the Dominican Republic from 24 July 1924 to 3 March 1930, succeeding Juan Bautista Vicini and preceding Rafael Estrella Urena. A democratically-elected president, he was overthrown in a coup by Estrella and Rafael Trujillo in 1930.
Biography[]
Horacio Vasquez was born on 22 October 1860, and became a politician of the Dominican Republic. From 1899 to 1903, he served as the provisional president of the republic, and he led the conservative Los Coludos in politics. He fought against Juan Isidro Jimenes Pereyra's Los Bolos liberal party, and he lost the 1914 elections to Jimenes. However, in 1924 he was democratically elected as the new president of the Dominican Republic. In 1930, Rafael Estrella Urena and Rafael Trujillo led a military coup, with Trujillo disobeying Vasquez's orders to lead troops against the coup, and he died in Moca, Dominican Republic on 25 March 1936.
