Horace White

Horace White (7 October 1865-27 November 1943) was the Republican Governor of New York from 6 October to 31 December 1910, succeeding Charles Evans Hughes and preceding John Alden Dix.

Biography[]

Horace White was born in Buffalo, New York in 1865, and he became a lawyer in Syracuse. He served in the State Senate from 1896 to 1907, as Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1909 to 1910, and Governor in 1910 after Charles Evans Hughes was appointed to the US Supreme Court. After leaving office, he served as a trustee of Cornell University from 1916 until his death in 1943.
