Horace Austin

Horace Austin (15 October 1831-2 November 1905) was the Republican Governor of Minnesota from 9 January 1870 to 7 January 1874, succeeding William Rainey Marshall and preceding Cushman K. Davis.

Biography[]

Horace Austin was born in Canterbury, Connecticut in 1831, and he moved to St. Peter, Minnesota at the age of 25 and served in the Dakota War of 1862 before becoming a state judge. He served as Governor from 1870 to 1874, after which he became register of the US Land Office at Fargo, North Dakota and a railroad commissioner. He died in Minneapolis in 1905.
