Army career[]
When he reached the age of 16, Johnston lied about his age and enlisted in the US Army, being assigned to the US 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In 1989, he qualified for the Green Berets, briefly being assigned to the special forces unit before being transferred to Delta Force, becoming the youngest Delta Force operative ever. Johnston was also assigned to CIA SAD, operating in Eastern Europe and the Middle East throughout the 1990s.
Rainbow career[]
In 1999, Johnston was selected to join the international counter-terrorist unit known as Rainbow. He served as a sniper during the 2000 Phoenix Group attacks, the Oil Mafia crackdown in 2002, and the 2006 Ustase plot. In his free time, he routinely hunted with fellow sniper and teammate Dieter Weber and visited his parents. Johnston transferred back to Delta Force as an officer after 2006.
