Hogg the Burly (born 832) was a Mercian flyter who lived in Oxford, Oxfordshire during the late 9th century AD. In 874 AD, he challenged the Norse traveller Eivor to a flyting competition, and Eivor won by ridiculing Hogg for challenging "a Norse" and joked about how his own rhyming had "scared off his hair" (poking fun at Hogg's baldness). Hogg graciously accepted defeat and gave Eivor 200 silver coins as his winnings.
