The Ho Chi Minh trail was a logistical system that ran from North Vietnam to South Vietnam through Laos and Cambodia from 1959 to 1975. The trail was used by the People's Army of Vietnam to send troops and supplies into the south, where they could assist the Viet Cong in its guerrilla war against the South Vietnamese government during the Vietnam War. The Americans gave the trail its nickname after North Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh, and the US Air Force heavily bombed the trail during the war, hoping to cut off the communist supply routes. However, these efforts failed, and the Viet Cong would team up with the NVA to overthrow the South Vietnamese government in 1975.
