Hiram Elder was a Las Vegas, Nevada cardshark. Elder helped Hosea Badders with cheating by tapping his leg, which was strapped with a wire that tapped Badders' wire on his wrist. Elder was caught cheating when Frank Rosenthal noticed that the card dealer was raising the card too high, and Rosenthal had policeman Amiel Brown stun Elder with a cattle prod. Elder's right hand was then broken to prevent him from cheating, and he was released to warn other cheaters about what would happen if they messed with the Tangiers.
