Hira Nur Ates (born 1950) was President of Turkey from 2004, succeeding Zeynep Hulusi.

Biography[]

Hira Nur Ates was born in Canakkale, Turkey in 1950. She became a member of the CHP, and, in 2004, she was elected to the Grand National Assembly. She was the party leader at the time, and she lost the presidential election to Zeynep Hulusi that same year by a margin of 47.2%-52.8%. However, later that year, she was elected President by a margin of 53.1% to 46.9%.
