
Himilco Barca (354 BC-) was Suffete of Carthage from 299 BC, succeeding Maharbal Gerbalid.
Biography[]
Himilco Barca was born in 354 BC, a scion of the prominent Barca family of Carthage. He started his career as Governor of Magna Graecia in present-day Sicily, managing Carthage's Italian holdings. He was affiliated with the Civic Faction, and he enjoyed popularity and influence in Carthaginian politics, effectively making him the heir to Suffete Maharbal Gerbalid. In 299 BC, he was elected to succeed Maharbal as Suffete, and Massinissa Gerbalid succeeded him as Governor. He oversaw the conquest of southern Spain, conquering Mastiania in 295 BC and appointing Culcas Tiresidus as its governor.
