Hilal Akbari

Hilal Akbari (1973-2007) was a Lebanese member of al-Qaeda. He was killed in the Afghanistan War by the US Marine Corps.

Biography[]

Hilal Akbari was born in Faraiya, Lebanon to a family of Sunni Muslims. He grew up in a country that was divided between Maronites, Shi'ites, and Sunnis, and the Lebanese Civil War raged during his childhood. Akbari gained radical views of Islamism, and he gained a hatred of Christianity and the West. In the 1990s he trained at an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan, and he resisted the United States' invasion of Afghanistan after 2001. In 2007, Akbari was killed in action in the fighting for Karam, an ISAF FOB that was under attack by the Taliban.
