Hesse is a federal state of Germany, located in the western parts of central Germany. Wiesbaden is the capital, while the principal cities include Frankfurt am Main, Darmstadt, Offenbach, Hanau, Giessen, Wetzlar, Limburg, Fulda, Kassel, and Marburg an der Lahn. The state does not include the entire cultural region, as parts of the region are parts of the neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2015, the state had a population of 6,176,172 people.
