Heruli

The Heruli were a Germanic tribe who lived north of the Black Sea in the 3rd century AD before migrating to the Roman frontier on the Central European Danube. They attacked Greece by sea and also marauded around the Balkans for several years, and they were conquered by Attila's Huns during the early 5th century AD. After Attila's death, they were one of the tribes which struggled for supremacy in the wastelands between Bavaria and Hungary, and they established their own kingdom. Many joined Odoacer, who deposed the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD and had himself proclaimed King of Italy. The Danubian kingdom later broke up, and remnants resettled in the Balkans, while Odoacer's kingdom was conquered by the Visigoths in 493 AD.
