Herod Archelaus (23 BC-18 AD) was the ethnarch of Samaria, Judea, and Edom from 4 BC to 6 AD, succeeding Herod the Great and preceding Herod Agrippa.
Biography[]
Herod Archelaus was the son of Herod the Great and the brother of Herod Antipas and Philip the Tetrarch, and, following the elder Herod's death in 4 BC. He reigned over the vast majority of the Herodian dynasty's lands, including Samaria, Judea, and Edom. Archelaus was removed from power when Rome annexed Judea to its Iudaea province, and he was banished to Vienne in Gaul. He died in 18 AD.
