Biography[]
Herik Purohit was born in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India on 13 June 1972, and he immigrated to England at the age of twelve and was raised in the declining industrial town of Bromland, Lincolnshire during the Thatcher era. Purohit's experiences growing up in a working-class South Asian household motivated him to become a community organizer and Labour Party activist. Purohit came to own Maharaja's Garden, an Indian cafe, and he held several cultural events at his business over the years. In 2013, with the support of the growing South Asian community of Bromland, Purohit ran for the Bromland Town Council, and he was one of ten Labour candidates to be elected on 7 April 2013.
