Herbert III of Meaux (945-28 January 996) was Count of Troyes and Meaux from 966 to 996, succeeding Robert of Vermandois and preceding Stephen I of Vermandois.
Biography[]
Herbert was born in 945, son of Robert of Vermandois and Adelaide Werra. In 966, he succeeded to his father's domains in Troyes and Meaux, and in 984 he inherited Omois on the death of his uncle Herbert III of Omois. Herbert supported Lothair of France in his conquest of Upper Lorraine and guarded Godfrey I of Verdun, who was captured in the campaign, and he backed his brother-in-law Charles of Lower Lorraine's claim to the throne - he had married Herbert's sister Adelaide of Troyes. Herbert died in 996.
