
Henry XIV, Duke of Bavaria (29 September 1305-1 September 1339) was Duke of Bavaria from 1310 to 1339, succeeding Stephen I of Bavaria and preceding John I of Bavaria.
Biography[]
Henry was born on 29 September 1305 in Landshut, a son of Duke Stephen I of Bavaria; he was from the House of Wittelsbach, and he was descended from royalty from the Kingdom of Poland. Henry became the duke of Lower Bavaria (Niederbayern) after the death of his father, and he supported Emperor Louis IV of Germany against Frederick I of Austria. In 1333, he was a candidate for Emperor of the Holy Roman Emperor when Louis considered abdicating, but he ultimately remained Duke of Bavaria. He died of leprosy in September 1339.
