
Henry Toole Clark (7 February 1808-14 April 1874) was the Democratic Governor of North Carolina from 7 July 1861 to 8 September 1862, succeeding John Willis Ellis and preceding Zebulon Baird Vance.
Biography[]
Henry Toole Clark was born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina in 1808, the son of James West Clark. He served as a state senator for over ten years and as Governor from 1861 to 1862, and he mobilized thousands of soldiers for the Confederate cause during the American Civil War. He died at his home near Tarboro in 1874.
