
Henry Sheffie Geyer (9 December 1790 – 5 March 1859) was a US Senator from Missouri (W) from 4 March 1851 to 4 March 1857, succeeding Thomas Hart Benton and preceding Trusten Polk.
Biography[]
Henry Sheffie Geyer was born in Frederick, Maryland in 1790, and he became a lawyer in 1811. He fought in the War of 1812 and settled in St. Louis, Missouri after the war's end, and he worked in journalism before serving in the state legislature. From 1851 to 1857, he served in the US Senate as Whig, and his support for slavery led to him supporting the Kansas-Nebraska Act. He died in 1859.
