Henry Middleton governor

Henry Middleton (28 September 1770-14 June 1846) was Governor of South Carolina from 8 December 1810 to 10 December 1812 (succeeding John Drayton and preceding Joseph Alston) a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-SC 1) from 4 March 1815 to 3 March 1819 (succeeding Langdon Cheves and preceding Charles Pinckney).

Biography[]

Henry Middleton was born in London, England in 1770, the son of US Declaration of Independence signer Arthur Middleton and the grandson of Continental Congress member Henry Middleton. He served as Governor of South Carolina from 1810 to 1812, in the US House of Representatives from 1815 to 1819, and as minister to the Russian Empire from 1821 to 1830. He died in 1846.
