Henry Meade was the head of Atlanta society during the American Civil War.

Biography[]

Henry Meade was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and he became a medical doctor and a Baptist minister. He became a respected figure in his city, coming to be known as the head of Atlanta society. During the American Civil War, he ministered to soldiers at the time of the Battle of Atlanta, and his wife Charlotte ran a hospital; their son Darcy was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg, while their younger son Phil was killed during the siege of Atlanta.
