Henry Luse Fuqua (8 November 1865-11 October 1926) was the Democratic Governor of Louisiana from 13 May 1924 to 11 October 1926, succeeding John M. Parker and preceding Oramel H. Simpson.

Biography[]

Henry Luse Fuqua was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1865, the brother of Stephen O. Fuqua. He worked as a railroad engineer and hardware manufacturer before becoming general manager of the state penitentiary, during which time he had the prisoners farm sugarcane, rise, and cotton to create profits for the state. He went on to serve as Governor from 1924 to 1926, passing anti-Klan legislation, but he died in office two years into his term.
