Henry I of France (4 May 1008-4 August 1060) was King of France from 20 July 1031 to 4 August 1060, succeeding Robert II of France and preceding Philip I of France.
Biography[]
Henry was born on 4 May 1008 in Reims, the son of Robert II of France and Constance of Arles. On 14 May 1027, he was crowned junior king of France after joining a rebellion against his father alongside his brother Robert I of Burgundy, whom he enfeoffed with the Duchy of Burgundy in 1032. Henry suppressed a revolt by William the Conqueror's vassals, helping his nephew-in-law at the 1047 Battle of Val-es-Dunes. 1054 and 1057 invasions of Normandy would fail, and France reached its smallest size in history under his reign, showing the weakness of the early House of Capet. Henry married Anne of Kiev, and she would be regent for six years when Henry died in 1060.
