Henry Grider

Henry Grider (16 July 1796 – 7 September 1866) was a member of the US House of Representatives (W-KY 3) from 4 March 1843 to 3 March 1847 (succeeding Joseph R. Underwood and preceding Samuel Peyton) and from 4 March 1861 to 7 September 1866 (succeeding Francis Bristow and preceding Elijah Hise).

Biography[]

Henry Grider was born in Garrard County, Kentucky in 1796, and he became a lawyer in Bowling Green before serving in the War of 1812, in the State House in 1827 and 1831, in the US House of Representatives from 1843 to 1847 as a Whig, and in the House from 1861 to 1866 as a Unionist and Democrat. Grider opposed the Thirteenth Amendment, and he died in 1866.
