Henry Gaither Worthington (9 February 1828-29 July 1909) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NV) from 31 October 1864 to 3 March 1865, succeeding Gordon Newell Mott and preceding Delos R. Ashley.
Biography[]
Henry Gaither Worthington was born in Cumberland, Maryland in 1828, and he moved to Tuolumne County, California and became a lawyer. He served in William Walker's expedition to Nicaragua, and he later returned to San Francisco; he went on to serve in the California militia and in the State Assembly from 1861 to 1862. He moved to Austin, Nevada in 1863, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1864 to 1865. He moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1867, and he narrowly lost a campaign for US Senate. He went on to serve as Collector of the Port of Charleston from 1872 to 1877, and he practiced law in Washington DC until his death in 1909.
