Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn

Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn (3 March 1783-29 June 1851) was a member of the US House of Representatives (NR-MA 10) from 4 March 1831 to 3 March 1833, succeeding John Bailey and preceding William Baylies. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, the son of Henry Dearborn, he practiced law in Salem, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine before serving in the War of 1812, as collector of the port of Boston from 1813 to 1829, in the state house in 1829, in the state senate in 1830, in Congress, as Adjutant General of Massachusetts from 1835 to 1845, and as Mayor of Roxbury from 1847 to 1851. In 1847, the Know Nothings intended to name Dearborn Zachary Taylor's vice-presidential running mate, but the ticket collapsed after the Whigs nominated Taylor as their own candidate.
