Henry Adoniram Swift

Henry Adoniram Swift (23 March 1823-25 February 1869) was the Republican Governor of Minnesota from 10 July 1863 to 11 January 1864, succeeding Alexander Ramsey and preceding Stephen Miller.

Biography[]

Henry Adoniram Swift was born in Ravenna, Ohio in 1823. He moved to St. Paul and then St. Peter in Minnesota in 1853, working for a land company before serving in the state senate, as Lieutenant Governor in 1863, and as Governor from 1863 to 1864 after Alexander Ramsey was elected to the US Senate. He died of typhoid fever in 1869.
