Henry Alonzo Edmundson (14 June 1814-16 December 1890) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-VA 12) from 4 March 1849 to 3 March 1861, succeeding William B. Preston and preceding Kellian Whaley. Born in Blacksburg, he practiced law in Salem before serving in Congress. He was arrested by the House's sergeant-at-arms on 12 May 1854 for threatening Lewis D. Campbell during debates over the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and he later accompanied Preston Brooks when he brutally caned Charles Sumner in 1856. He went on to serve as lieutenant-colonel of the 54th Virginia Infantry Regiment and the 25th Virginia Cavalry Regiment during the American Civil War, and he died in Shawsville in 1890.
