Biography[]
Helena Sotomayor was from Bogota, Colombia, and she was a prostitute by profession. Sotomayor often slept with cartel members, but she formed a relationship with DEA member Javier Pena, having sex with him for free and giving him information on the cartels' activities. In 1981, she told him that she would be going to one of Pablo Escobar's parties in Medellin, and Sotomayor asked him if Pena could get her a visa to head to the United States; Pena told her that she could if she gave him more information in the future. She headed to the Las Margaritas hotel party with Escobar and other drug lords, and Jose Rodriguez Gacha hired her to have sex with him, which she was willing to do if she would be able to get a US visa. However, she asked him about the meeting, leading to Rodriguez having her tortured and raped by several of his men in an "interrogation". She was rescued by Search Bloc soldiers under Colonel Horacio Carrillo and Javier Pena, but she was mentally injured by the incident.
