Heinrich von Breymann (died 7 October 1777) was a Lieutenant-Colonel of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel during the American Revolutionary War.
Biography[]
Heinrich von Breymann was a Lieutenant-Colonel of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, a small state of Germany in personal union with Great Britain, during the 1770s. He was hired as a mercenary Lieutenant-Colonel of King George III of Great Britain and led 642 troops and 2 6-lber cannon to assist the British Army and Loyalists fighting against the United States in the American Revolutionary War. He served under General John Burgoyne during his campaign in northern New York, and his coat was filled with bulletholes during the 1777 Battle of Bennington. His grenadiers performed well at the Battle of Bemis Heights, but he was eventually forced to fall back to the Breymann Redoubt. Mad at his men, he hit four men with his saber before another one of his men killed him ("fragging").
