Heinrich Strachwitz (born in 1901) was a German Luftwaffe NCO during World War II.
Biography[]
Strachwitz was born in 1901 in Germany. He fough as a pilot in World War I. He joined the Nazi Party in 1923. During World War II, he was a senior officer in Stalag Luft III. Serving under the command of Friedrich Wilhelm von Lindeiner-Wildau. He was also known for sent Virgil Hilts and Archie Ives to the cooler many times.
On July 1943, he discovered one of the tunnels. On March 1944, he was one of the first officer to arrive Barracks 105 during The Great Escape, just after one the prisioners was caught by one of the guards. After the war he was captured by the Americans.
