Biography
Hector Pena Mata was born in Colombia, but he later emigrated to the United States and settled in Miami, Florida, where he engaged in cocaine trafficking. Pena earned the nickname of "The Toad" due to his bloated appearance. He lived in the Sun Ray Hotel, from which he conducted his business. In 1980, Omar Suarez set up a drug deal between the Colombians and his boss, Frank Lopez, and he sent Tony Montana and Angel Fernandez to oversee the purchase of Colombian cocaine at Pena's hotel room. However, Suarez set Montana and Fernandez up, and Hector had his men dismember Fernandez with a chainsaw. Before Pena could kill Montana, Montana's associates Chi-Chi and Manny Ribera stormed the hotel room, killing Hector's associates Marta Barragan, Ptolomeo Santiago Rojo, and Stefano Godínez García. Ribera then shot Pena, who chainsawed open the door to the neighbor's room and the window, falling out and stumbling onto the street. There, Montana confronted him and shot Pena in the forehead with his handgun, publicly executing him.
