Hattie Q. Shuey was an American soldier who served in the 2nd Maine Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. In June 1863, he and 120 other members of his regiment mutinied after they realized that they had accidentally signed onto three-year rather than one-year contracts, but they were transferred to the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment, where Colonel Joshua Chamberlain persuaded them to fight alongside his battle-scarred regiment and for the ideals of freedom, Union, and the American Dream. He and the other mutineers unanimously joined up with the 20th Maine and went on to fight at the Battle of Gettysburg.
