Hathor was a major goddess in the Ancient Egyptian religion of Kemetism, serving as a sky deity, the mother or consort of Horus and the sun god Ra, and the mother of the pharaohs. As the "Eye of Ra", she protected Ra from his enemies, and she also represented music, dance, joy, love, sexuality, and maternal care, while helping deceased souls in their transition to the afterlife. After the end of New Kingdom Egypt, she was increasingly overshadowed by Isis, but she continued to be worshipped until the extinction of Kemetism in the early centuries AD.
