The Hatakeyama clan was a Japanese samurai clan that was originally a branch of the Taira clan and later a vassal of the Kamakura Minamoto. The first family became extinct in 1205 but Ashikaga Yoshizumi revived the clan by marrying the daughter of Hatakeyama Shigeyasu, the last daimyo, and he took the name Hatakeyama, reviving the clan under the bloodline of the Seiwa Minamoto. The clan came to possess multiple lands, one of which was on the northern shore of Central Japan, another of which was in northern Japan, and one of which was along the Inland Sea. Thus, they were conquered piecemeal in the Sengoku Period (1545-1615).
