Hassain Khalif Shire Ali

Hassan Khalif Shire Ali (1987-9 November 2018) was an Islamic State sympathizer from Somalia who killed a person and wounded two others in a knife attack in Melbourne, Australia before being gunned down by police.

Biography[]

Hassan Khalif Shire Ali was born in Somalia in 1987, the brother of Ali Khalif Shire Ali. His family later settled in Werribee, Australia during the 1990s, and Hassan attended prayers in Melbourne's northern suburbs. In 2015, his passport was cancelled after he was suspected of attempting to head to Syria to join the Islamic State, and he left his family's home due to his problems with substance abuse. On 9 November 2018, Hassan loaded his car with gas bottles and crashed into the Melbourne central business district. He went on to randomly stab pedestrians, killing one and wounding two others, and he was shot dead while attempting to stab responding police.
