Haryana is one of the 29 states of India, located in the north of the country; Chandigarh serves as its capital. Haryana was carved out of the Punjab region to become one of the wealthiest states of the country, with its agricultural and manufacturing industries experiencing sustained growth since the 1970s. The state borders Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the north, Rajasthan to the west and south, and Uttar Pradesh to the east. In 2011, the state had a population of 25,353,081 people.
