
Harvey Lowell Wollman (14 May 1935-) was the Democratic Governor of South Dakota from 24 July 1978 to 1 January 1979, succeeding Richard F. Kneip and preceding Bill Janklow. As of 2022, Wollman was South Dakota's last Democratic governor.
Biography[]
Harvey Lowell Wollman was born in Frankfort, South Dakota in 1935, he served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. He worked as a farmer in Hitchcock before serving in the State Senate from 1968 to 1970, as Lieutenant Governor from 1975 to 1978, and as Governor from 1978 to 1979, completing Richard F. Kneip's term after Kneip resigned to serve as Ambassador to Singapore. He served as Governor for only five months and lost renomination, and he worked to speed the repeal of the property tax and increase the budget for higher education.
