Harthacnut I of Denmark (857-934) was King of Denmark from 917 to 934, succeeding Sigtrygg Gnupasson and preceding Gorm the Old.
Biography[]
Harthacnut was born in 857, a son of Sigurdr Snake-in-the-eye of Sjaelland. Harthacnut deposed the young king Sigtrygg Gnupasson in 917 and reigned as king of Denmark for 17 years, but Sigtrygg's father Gnupa continued to rule in some parts of Denmark. Harthacnut died in 934, and his son Gorm the Old would unite Denmark as one kingdom.
