Harry Stewart New (31 December 1858-9 May 1937) was a US Senator from Indiana (R) from 4 March 1917 to 3 March 1923, succeeding John W. Kern and preceding Samuel M. Ralston.
Biography[]
Harry Stewart New was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1858, and he worked as a newspaper reporter and publisher before serving in the US Army during the Spanish-American War. He was a member of the Republican National Committee from 1900 to 1912, and he went on to serve as a US Senator from 1917 to 1923 and as Postmaster General from 1923 to 1929. In 1922, he was the first Senator to use the radio for a campaign.
