Harold Wycliffe (1779-1842) was an American planter from South Carolina.
Biography[]
Harold Wycliffe was born in Seneca, South Carolina in 1779. He came from a family of pioneers from Newberry, and he established a corn plantation near Long Creek, along the Chattooga River at the state's northwestern corner. Wycliffe, as a regional baron, affiliated himself with the Federalist and Whig parties, intent on preserving his economic and political power and expanding the area's infrastructure. Wycliffe served in the State House from 1809 to 1810, and he also served as a Whig revenue collector in Seneca. He died in 1842.
