Harold John Arthur (9 February 1904-19 July 1971) was the Republican Governor of Vermont from 16 January 1950 to 4 January 1951, succeeding Ernest W. Gibson Jr. and preceding Lee E. Emerson.

Biography[]

Harold John Arthur was born in Whitehall, New York in 1904, and he was raised in Brandon, Vermont before settling in Burlington. He served in the State House from 1939 to 1949, as a US Army lieutenant-colonel during World War II, as Lieutenant Governor from 1949 to 1950, and as Governor from 1950 to 1951 after Ernest W. Gibson Jr. resigned to serve as a judge. He died in 1971.
