Three black members of the Happy Jack Gang.
The Happy Jack Gang were an African-American street gang based in San Francisco that participated in the Opium Trade during the 1870s. The gang is led by, and named after the drug lord from the Barbary Coast red-light district area Happy Jack. It is unknown when the gang was formed probably around the end of the American Civil War, but it is seen that the gang is primarily made up of black freedmen from the South.
History[]
When the Happy Jack Gang agreed to meet with Ah Sahm and Young Jun of the Hop Wei Tong as a favor to Vega, who are in need of a new molasses source. However, they were reluctant to work with anyone from the tongs, but Ah Sahm is willing to pay for a dozen crates and storage for it. While the gang is not in the business of storing molasses, as it's too risky, they're willing to pay more for storage and come to an agreement to meet later that night. However, when they return, Ah Sahm and Young Jun learn that they’ll no longer intended to store their opium, despite their initial agreement, leading to a brawl that results in them killing several of Happy Jack's men until Jack draws his gun on Young Jun, bringing the fight to an end. He explains that the SFPD cops have been cracking down and raided two shops in the area already, which is why he can no longer store their product. So, they can either walk out with nothing or they can give him a delivery location.
