
Hans Willem van Aylva (1633-21 February 1691) was a Dutch lieutenant admiral who served in the Franco-Dutch War and the War of the Grand Alliance.
Biography[]
Hans Willem van Aylva was born in Holwerd, Friesland, United Provinces in 1633, and he served in the Dutch navy and participated in the Raid on the Medway in 1667 before being promoted to major-general in 1668. He went on to serve in the Franco-Dutch War, during which he was wounded at the Battle of Seneffe, and led an Anglo-Dutch army at the Battle of Walcourt and the Battle of Fleurus during the War of the Grand Alliance. He died in 1691 after falling from his horse.
