Hans Strasburger (8 October 1781-29 January 1814) was a Colonel of the Prussian Army during the Napoleonic Wars. He died in the Battle of Bar-le-Duc.
Biography[]
Hans Strasburger was born in Danzig in East Prussia (present-day Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia), a province of the Kingdom of Prussia (present-day Germany), in 1781. Strasburger commanded Prussian forces in the early stages of the Napoleonic Wars as a sergeant and was promoted to Lieutenant during the Battle of Jena-Auerstadt. Strasburger was made the commander of a unit of Musketeers during the Polish Campaign of 1807 as its Major.
Strasburger was made a Colonel during the War of Liberation of 1813, during which his regiment advanced into France along with Prussian, Russian, Austrian, Swedish, and allied German forces. Strasburger fought in the Defense of France in the Battle of Bar-le-Duc on 29 January 1814, commanding a regiment of musketeers. He was killed in the battle when he led an attack on the French troops.
