Hanbali is a school of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence, named after the 9th century Iraqi scholar Ahmad ibn Hanbal. It is smaller than the Hanafi, Maliki, and Shafi'i schools. Hanbalism's tenets are strict traditionalism, ignoring critical analysis of the religious texts and instead drawing sharia directly from the Qur'an, the hadiths, and the views of the sahabah. The school is mostly found in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, where it is the official fiqh (jurisprudence), and it also has a significant presence in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, and Jordan.
