Hamza Abbas (born 1995) was an Islamic State sympathizer from Australia who was arrested by Australian police on 23 December 2016 for plotting a bombing in Melbourne on Christmas.
Biography[]
Hamza Abbas was born in Flemington, Australia to a family of Sunni Muslim immigrants from Lebanon. Abbas was self-radicalized, and he joined a pro-Islamic State cell alongside Abdula Chaarani and Ahmed Mohamed. They made elaborate plans to bomb several locations in the city of Melbourne, but they were arrested by police on 23 December 2016 to prevent them from carrying out the attacks.
