
Hamou Benlatreche (born 1981) was an Algerian Islamic State sympathizer who injured six French Army soldiers in a vehicular attack in Levallois-Perret, Paris, France on 9 August 2017.
Biography[]
Hamou Benlatreche was born in Algeria in 1981, and he legally immigrated to France, where he worked as a delivery driver and an Uber driver. He lived in the Paris suburb of Bezons, and he was a practicing Muslim; before 2017, he had never been convicted of a crime. On 9 August 2017, Benlatreche decided to carry out a vehicular attack against French Army troops from the French 35th Infantry Regiment in Belfort, inspired by Islamist propaganda. He slowed his BMW rental car down before sighting the soldiers, and he sped into them, wounding six. Benlatreche was captured by police after being stopped on the A16 autoroute, as his vehicle had conspicous damage on its hood and bumper.
