
Hamilton Ward Sr. (3 July 1829-28 December 1898) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NY 27) from 4 March 1865 to 3 March 1871, succeeding Robert B. Van Valkenburgh and preceding Horace B. Smith.
Biography[]
Hamilton Ward Sr. was born in Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York in 1829, and he became a lawyer in Philipsville in 1851. From 1858 to 1890, he attended almost every state Republican convention, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1865 to 1871 and as state Attorney General from 1880 to 1881. He served on the state Supreme Court from 1891 to 1895 and in the Appellate Division from 1895 until his death in 1898.
