Hamazasp Srvandztyan

Hamazasp Srvandztyan (1873-18 February 1921) was an Armenian Revolutionary Federation leader and a general of Armenia.

Biography[]

Hamazasp Srvandztyan was born in 1873 in Van, Ottoman Empire, and he joined the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and took part in the clashes between the Tatars and Armenians; in 1908, he was sentenced to death, but in 1913 he escaped from a 15-year prison term in Siberia and led an Armenian volunteer battalion against the Ottomans during World War I. In 1918, he fought for the Baku Commune and later crushed the May Uprising as a general of Armenia. In 1921, he was one of the many Armenian generals executed by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War.
